"From a large car park to a vibrant town centre"
"When our plans are fully realised, it will feel like the centre of Vestby has been transformed from a large car park to a vibrant town centre."
Trond Schanche Solbakken, project manager in Vestby Municipality, explains.
"The plan is for the town centre of Vestby to be able to welcome a large number of new residents in the coming years." With increasing population numbers come great expectations:
“This requires us to develop new dining opportunities, create cultural meeting places and facilitate activities in the town centre,” says Solbakken, who is looking forward to a new spring in Vestby town centre.
The municipality facilitates more commercial activity
Vestby Municipality is situated in a scenic area near Oslofjorden in the south of Follo. Surrounded by attractive recreational and outdoor areas lies the small area that today constitutes the centre of Vestby.
“We want to make the town centre a great place to be, both for those who already live here and for future residents,” says Solbakken, who can tell us everything is in place for a more vibrant urban centre:
"Thousands of square metres of new commercial premises are already planned, which will be filled with a varied selection of restaurants, bars, niche stores and other options."
Going forward, the supply of premises will increase in step with the population. To ensure this, Vestby Municipality requires that all new construction projects in the town centre have a high first floor with sufficient space for commercial premises.
Rådhusparken and Vestby’s new public venue
The municipality is also building wide pavements through the centre, as well as developing an end-to-end cycling network through Vestby. The aim is that car traffic in the town centre will diminish when it becomes more attractive to use public transport, or just cycle or walk.
Eventually, the new park, Rådhusparken, will also find its place in the town centre, on just over four acres of land. It will function as a large green lung for the heart of the town - and its location right by Wessel Park will be of great value to the residents here.
On the other side of the planned park, a beautiful new cultural centre is already in place in what is known as the Culture Quarter. This is Vestby’s new main public venue, with a library, school of music and performing arts, large hall, flexi room, café and offices.
Wessel Park
- Number of apartments 104
- Year of construction: 2020-2022

A clear sign of the urban centre's development
Occupation of Wessel Park is now underway. With only one apartment left for sale, you need to be quick if you want to secure an apartment in Wessel Park.
For Solbakken and his colleagues at the Town Hall, seeing life in the apartments in Wessel Park is a clear sign that the centre is developing rapidly.
"We definitely feel that we are really on the way to giving the centre of Vestby a real boost."
