New homes in the city centre
The old industrial town has gradually developed into a future-oriented society that satisfies every need, from a range of kindergartens and schools to exciting shopping opportunities, services and a rich and varied cultural scene.
The municipality, business community and cultural institutions have been working together for a number of years to strengthen the urban dimension of the centre of Moss and to develop a modern city centre with urban qualities. One of the steps taken has been to transform former industrial areas into attractive neighbourhoods where people enjoy living and spending time.
After the municipality decided to allow significant housing development in the centre of Moss, thousands of new homes have been built on former industrial sites. In the city centre, entire city blocks are zoned for new homes, offices and business establishments.
This is also where the new housing development project launched by Thon Eiendom, Dronningkvartalet, is located, which will be adjacent to the AMFI Moss shopping centre.
Dronningkvartalet, which consists of 195 modern apartments, will add an aesthetic boost to the area. There will also be shared roof terraces, a green car-free park area and parking in a private underground car park.
Shopping centre of the future
AMFI Moss in the heart of the city centre is undergoing extensive renovations and upgrades and is a central focus of the ongoing development of the city centre. Once completed, it will be one of the country’s most modern shopping centres and an attractive destination for the entire region.
The renovations will also make it a destination for experiences and food service establishments are an important part of the investment strategy. In addition to the shopping centre, there will also be public health facilities, a gym and a wellness centre.
Thriving cultural scene
The city’s cultural scene has thrived in recent years, with both public and private venues. Instead of demolishing old industrial buildings, they have been given a new lease on life and a new purpose.
Møllebyen, for example, now houses a cinema, museum, library and restaurants, as well as residential and commercial spaces.
The Moss cultural centre is another good example. Every year, Moss organises events such as the Christian Frederik Days, Møllebyen International Literature Festival and NonStop Theatre Festival, as well as a number of concerts and city festivals that bring an urban edge and activity to the city centre.
Sports and recreation
When you live in the heart of Moss, you can put on your gym clothes at home and walk straight to the nearest gym or take part in an organised sport.
Just outside the city centre, there is literally a sea of possibilities. There are no shortage of swimming or fishing spots, whether you prefer a rocky coastline or sandy beach, the salty Oslofjord or the fresh water of Lake Vansjø. The Mossemarka wilderness area also has cross-country skiing tracks with lighting and great cycling routes.
