Strømmen has everything I need

Tone wanted to live close to the woods, services and amenities, and public transportation. Strømmen turned out to be the perfect choice.

Found everything they were looking for at Strømmen Verksted

"I asked myself where I wanted to spend the rest of my life - and it turned out to be Strømmen. I haven't regretted it for a moment," says Tone Indergård, 64.

Together with her husband Ove, 64, she moved into a newly built apartment from Thon Eiendom at Strømmen Verksted in December 2020. Here they live at a central location in Strømmen in the municipality of Lillestrøm, just under half an hour from Oslo.

Tone is originally from Trøndelag, but relocated to Eastern Norway in 1985. After ten years in Romerike, she ended up in Oslo. She really enjoyed living there in an apartment with a large garden in Romsås, but as she got older, the time came to downsize.

"I found everything I was looking for at Strømmen Verksted. A nice, new apartment, a lift up from the underground car park and close proximity to just about everything. Romerike is also where I feel most at home," says Tone.

The best part about living in Strømmen

  • Strømmen is both urban and close to nature, with lots of nice recreational and hiking areas.
  • Good public transportation and close to Oslo and Lillestrøm, among others.
  • You have all types of services and amenities nearby.

Urban yet rural

She works as a diabetes nurse at the Norwegian Diabetes Centre in Oslo, which is located near Lysaker railway station. So, the fact that Strømmen station is only a few minutes’ walk from the apartment was one of the reasons they choose to live here.

"It takes no more than 35 minutes by train to get to my job in Lysaker. That’s fantastic. There's also a bus station with departures to Oslo and Lillestrøm every five minutes," says Tone.

Less than 100 metres from the front door is Strømmen Storsenter, home to 200 shops, restaurants, services and healthcare facilities. The area also has a cultural centre, cinema, library, bowling alley and Strømmen Stadium.

"Strømmen has become very urban, yet we still have nature a stone's throw away.. That's hard to find anywhere else," says Tone happily.

"It’s never boring to go for a walk in Strømmen. We walk every day, both in the woods and around our neighbourhood. You could probably walk for years without ever taking the same route"

Lots of recreational opportunities

The couple are very pleased with their 67 square metres on the fourth floor and especially with the good layout. For for Tone, who was used to having a large garden, it was important that the new apartment had an outdoor space.

"Our 15 m2 angled balcony has sunshine from morning to evening."

"It’s also nice that it’s so quiet and peaceful here. The only thing we hear is the gurgling sounds of the Sagelva River," says Tone.

She particularly appreciates the green outdoor areas and being surrounded by woods on almost every side.

"We have the entire Østmarka wilderness area for recreation. Up towards Skjetten and Gjelleråsen are also many nice areas to pick berries and mushrooms. And Losby, around a 15-minute drive away, has a visitor centre, hiking trails and a golf course. There's both a bird sanctuary and great swimming beaches at Lake Øyeren."

Tone also mentions swimming at Åmotdammen in Østmarka and Romeriksåsene as favourite pasttimes.

"It’s never boring to go for a walk in Strømmen. We walk every day, both in the woods and around our neighbourhood. You could probably walk for years without ever taking the same route," says Tone.
