Answers to common prospective tenant questions
How do you market your business at a shopping centre?
As a tenant of a shopping centre, you are part of all joint marketing campaigns and activities. Centre management at the various centres is responsible for joint activities.
Tenants usually pay a marketing contribution of a certain percentage of turnover.

What does it cost to open a store at a shopping centre?
This depends in part on the concept. Tenants move into shop units as they are. The cost of starting a store will vary, but for a retail space of around 100 square metres, the cost will be anything from NOK 500,000 to 1,000,000.

How is the lease amount at a shopping centre calculated?
All our tenants generally pay a minimum lease amount. If a specific revenue amount is achieved, a turnover-based lease according to a agreed percentage applies. This amount varies depending on the sector and centre where you are renting a space from us.
Do the largest retail chain stores get the best locations in the centre?
Large and well-established retail chains do not necessarily get the best locations. The 'right' location for each store varies depending on what is most appropriate for that particular concept.
What are the requirements for a new store or food service establishment?
Thon loves a bold newcomer, but we always carry out a professional evaluation of every idea and concept first. The concept should fit in well with the shopping centre in question and all tenants are required to provide a bank guarantee for the lease, among other requirements.
Local entrepreneurs make our centres more exciting. And they often do well commercially. New concepts create a dynamic element and are often success factors for a thriving centre.
Become a tenant of Norway's most experienced shopping centre operator
Olav Thon started with nothing and became a successful entrepreneur, so we have a strong focus at Thon on supporting new businesses and entrepreneurs.
The Olav Thon Group portfolio has grown from the first investment in 1950 to encompass around 500 properties in Norway, Sweden, Brussels and Rotterdam, and today, we have around 80 shopping centres of varying sizes across all of Norway, from Svalbard in the north to Mandal in the south.
Many of our most successful tenants are local entrepreneurs with a unique business concept. Both large and small stores are welcome at our centres.
