The centre is part of Glasshuset in the Bodø city centre. Glasshuset is designed as a shopping district connected by a pedestrian street under a glass roof to protect shoppers from the elements. Koch has been a shopping centre since 1874 and has been a central meeting place for local residents since its establishment. The centre is owned by Otto Koch AS, but the Thon Group took over management in 2022. It was also completely renovated that same year.
Market and customer base
The centre’s primary market includes the Bodø city centre and municipality in general, with a population of over 80,000. The centre’s secondary market comprises Salten, Lofoten, Vesterålen, Ofoten and Helgeland, with a total population of over 240,000. Bodø is a popular course and conference destination, with several hotels within walking distance of the centre, making travellers an important customer group for the Koch Kjøpesenter.
Retail mix
Across four floors, the Koch Kjøpesenter has around 50 shops and food service establishments. These include both well-known major chain stores and smaller niche shops, coffee bars and restaurants.
The Koch Kjøpesenter is located close to several transport hubs. Various hotels, bus stops, the Hurtigruta quay, cruise port and railway station are all a short walk from the centre. The Stormen concert hall and library and the Nordland hospital are also within walking distance of the centre.
